The Town retain the Hilda Mitchell Cup
The Town retained the Hilda Mitchell Cup this afternoon, with a 2-1 victory over neighbours Quintin BC. The Cup was originally raced between Quintin and their previous next door neighbours, Ibis BC, but had not been raced since the 1990s. The competition was restored in 2014, with Putney Town replacing Ibis as the challengers to QBC.
This year’s racing started with the veteran men’s eights, with the first race going to Quintin. Next up were two Putney Town women’s pairs, taking the opportunity to race after their points had excluded them from the W.Im3 event. A close race saw Sophie and Jennie beat Emma and Stacey by one length along the Chiswick Regatta course.
The next action also came from the women, with the Town levelling the scores with victory in the coxed four.
For the second year running the final and deciding race was the men’s eights. Another very close saw the Town take victory by half a length and retain the Cup.
The trophy was presented at a BBQ, which followed the racing. Well done to all those who competed, and thank you to those who helped run the event.
