Veteran Men
The veterans’ squad at ‘the Town’ numbers some 20 - 25 veterans in ages from below the 40’s and up to 70. The levels of experience and ambitions vary - we have for example members who have raced in regattas for more than 50 years and some who joined recently after learning to row at PTRC and gained experience at novice levels.
The squad races at all heads on the Tideway and local regattas during the summer season. We have also been spotted at Irish and German regattas. An annual veteran event during June is the row to Henley in three tub pairs.
Our water training slots are Saturday and Sunday mornings and Thursday evenings during the summer season. The veterans have access to all club boats but also own two coxless Empacher fours. The squad pays for its own coaching which normally takes place on Sunday mornings. We train and are coached together as a squad.
In addition to veterans’ favourite pastime of propping up the bar, we are also active in the management and maintenance of the club, as well as in supporting the senior squads. The veterans at PTRC tend to be, or become, long standing members.
We always welcome new rowing members to the squad and look forward to continue to grow in numbers and win pots going forward.
Enquiries regarding joining and other matters are best addressed to veteranmen@putneytownrc.co.uk. Alternatively, show up in the bar on any Thursday evening after 9pm and ask for the veterans.
