Permissions are well underway, including the need to set up site compounds, get PLA licenses and divert the existing towpath access to carry out the works.

Current projections aim to get the works substantially complete by the end of March 2012.

Further details about how this will affect the boat club during construction will be posted, but we are assuming 100% availability of boats and launching throught the construction phase.

Putney Town Rowing Club was born on 29 January 1922 and until 1986 rowed out of the basement of the Duke’s Head pub in Putney.

To celebrate our 90th anniversary we will be returning to our spiritual home in Putney.

We have exclusive use of the basement bar

Food will be available to order from the normal menu

With kind support from  Young’s & Co Brewery.

The Quiz will be the usual great mix of picture, music and question rounds! With prizes for each round and an overall Champion Team prize!

Quiz kicks off promptly at 7pm. Table service during the quiz means there is no need for you to miss questions whilst you go for a drink.

The traditional Burns Supper (Meat & Vegetarian options for only £5 with free poetry!) will be in the interval.

Team sizes of up to 6 people and don’t worry despite using Burns night as an excuse for having the quiz it’s general knowledge not a Burns or Scottish quiz with questions for everyone!

(For the last few years we’ve been overbooked well before the event with 100+ people in attendance and have not been able to accommodate everyone so get in early to avoid disappointment!)

We recently received great news about funding for the ramp but it came with a catch - it needs to be built by the end of March 2012!

The total build cost for the ramp is £315,000, and once we have collected and banked the grants, promises and loans from members and tax on donations, we will have around £206,000 in the bank.

We are in the process of borrowing £100,000 (mix of commercial and soft loans from members) – the maximum the Club can afford to pay back without affecting day to day running.

Donations urgently needed now!

We need to raise the final £9000 which is 3% of the total amount before building can start. We’re so close, yet without this final funding the building cannot begin and the grants will lapse and we will lose the only opportunity we have to make this project a reality.

If you have generously offered a soft loan or promised a donation, please urgently contact Geoff Adams or James Davey to make final arrangements. If you have yet to donate, please consider even a small sum – every £ counts at this stage.

"We all row in a yellow submarine..."

A further highlight of the evening was a rendition of ‘we all row in a yellow submarine’ a tribute to a recent, unfortunate incident involving an Empacher 8+, a cruiser causing a HUGE amount of wake and some very soggy rowers! Happily, all involved were unharmed aside from being a bit wet and cold! The song was expertly led by men’s captain John Hickling on acoustic guitar however I’m sorry to report that the singing was anything but expert! Stick to rowing lads!

Many of the party goers continued the fun in Citizen Smith in Putney where the festive cheer continued to flow amid some interesting dance moves (I use the word ‘dance’ loosely).

Apart from the odd sore head the next day and a few lost personal belongings, the night was a storming success and has put all of us very much in the festive spirit. Next up it’s the PTRC girls turn to paint the town a festive shade of red on Friday followed by the PTRC presidents’ cheese and wine party happening on Saturday 10th December open to all PTRC members and their friends and families. Merry Christmas from us all at PTRC.

Open Day for all experienced rowers and coxes – both male and female - interested in joining Putney Town for the 2011-12 season

Saturday September 10th 2011 at 11am

Are you looking for a rowing club in London and have previous rowing or coxing experience?

As the ‘friendliest Club on the Tideway’, Putney Town welcomes experienced coxes, oarsmen and oarswomen to an Open Day on Saturday, September 10th, at 11am.

The day is an opportunity for you to see Putney Town’s facilities, to meet our rowers and coaches and to learn about the Club’s history and activities. The Open Day is also an opportunity for us to get a feel for your level and ambition so that were you to join the Club, we can match you with the appropriate squad.

We will meet at 11am in the main hall of the boathouse (upstairs) and based on numbers you may be going on the water.

Please bring kit for water or indoor training, a water bottle and wellies (you can borrow wellies at the Club if you don’t have any at hand).

The timetable for the day is as follows: -

• 12:30 – Boat Naming Ceremony, including a newly received hwt Empacher 8+ for the men’s squad
• 14:00 – Gourmet BBQ
• 16:00 – Twister Competition

The Bouncy castle and games are of course available all day. We will also have an indoor and outdoor bar with seating, a guest ale, Pimms and other drinks. There will be sport shown on the TV, and our new bar will be open until late. Friends and family are of course welcome.
