EGM & AGM 2018

This year, the general committee is recommending two constitutional amendments which will change the way the general committee runs.  In order to make use of those changes this year should the membership agree with the changes, the committee will call an Extraordinary General meeting at 12noon on Sunday 22 July where the following two proposals will be debated.

The AGM will follow as soon as the EGM is closed.

Proposed by: Peter Jones (Captain 2017/18)

Seconded by: Steve Harding (Membership Secretary 2017/18)

Preamble

Learn to Row is the most important thing that we do. Without it, we’d have fewer members, fewer boats, quieter socials, higher subs… This is why we put a huge effort into organising the course each year and so many of you are asked to volunteer your time.

Over the years, a very small number of people have managed the course, usually alongside another major role. That in itself presents a challenge, and I have come to the conclusion that Learn to Row and our development programme really needs its own person to make sure we continue to attract, recruit and retain new rowers, while ensuring those in other roles are fully able to focus on the priorities they are responsible for.
It is proposed to add a new position to General Committee – that of Vice-Captain (Learn to Row / Development) – with a specific brief to be responsible for the course and the rowing development of the Learn to Row members to ensure the progression of the course graduates through the development squads.

Committee unanimously recommends that this proposal is accepted by the membership.

Proposal

Part 5

Delete: “The General Committee shall consist of twelve Members who will deal with the affairs of the Club. These committee members include the Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Captain, Men’s Vice Captain, Women’s Vice Captain and five ordinary members.”

Add:  “The General Committee shall consist of thirteen Members who will deal with the affairs of the Club. These committee members include the Chairman, Treasurer, Secretary, Membership Secretary, Captain, Men’s Vice Captain, Women’s Vice Captain, Vice Captain (Development) and five ordinary members.”

Proposed by: Steve Harding (Membership Secretary 2017/18)

Seconded by: Peter Jones (Captain 2017/18)

Preamble

The makeup of committee has changed over the past few years and this cleanup aims to install within the constitution the current committee structure. This amendment will formalise the split of bar steward into two roles, bar manager and social secretary (which took place informally in 2015) and ensure all committee roles are defined properly within the constitution. It also aims to make it clear that not all members of committee are club officers.
