PTRC members clean up the Thames
On Sunday 29th November, a large group of PTRC members joined others as part of a joint Thames21 and PTRC initiative to clean the river bed under the Surrey arch of Kew Bridge. Not only does this make our river cleaner, but it also keeps our fleet safer by removing obstacles that pose a risk at low tide.
Patrick Pierson reports:
We had a great turnout. There were more than 20 rowers from PTRC which is great considering a total turnout of around 30 or so. We filled two steel cages full of rubbish that included about a dozen tyres, five or six road cones, a few chairs, an oil drum, and a full mini keg of beer. A few of us ventured into the water to clear some hazards to boats. The water was freezing, but once hypothermia set in, we forgot all about it.
Many thanks to everyone who came along to help.
