More wins at Oxford City Regattas
The Putney Town road-show moved onto Oxford this weekend to compete in the Oxford City Royal and Sprint Regattas, held on the beautiful Isis outside the college boathouses. Small delegations from both the men’s and women’s squads were joined by small groups from the masters women’s and men’s squads, and Craig and Helen in their mixed double.
Virtually all entered crews, racing in either singles or doubles made it through at least one heat, with many of the scullers also making a final, including Captain John, who finished overall second for the third successive event. Many of the girls racing in singles are still in their first year of rowing, with Louisa leading the way and in beating a sculler from Reading RC impressed those assembled on the bank with an excellent line through the narrow course. As always, Jasper was on hand to celebrate the win!
The first success of the weekend came from Simone who won W.Mas.1X event on Saturday along the full course. More success followed on Sunday on the Sprint course as John went one step further to take the IM3.1x final, though the Town Choir were kept on edge as a very tight line around the infamous foliage almost gave victory away.
Overall another successful weekend to bring the Summer regatta season to a close, with our newest rowers showing promising talent in singles to complement the wins of our more experienced scullers!
