Where’s the best place to watch the Boat Race?
by Ian on Mar.13, 2011, under Events, News
At Putney Town of course! Watch as Isis and Goldie go head to head and set the stage for the main event. Then watch The Blue Boats battle it out for the pride and the glory of being crowned Xchanging Boat Race Champions 2011.
Based near the finish line of the boat race course, with a riverside bar open to the general public, and seating and marquee if the weather turns for the worst, we’re well placed to watch the race. And unlike the riverside in Putney and Hammersmith, you can actually move!
When the race is over and the victors decided, the awards and customary cox dunking will take place opposite the club at Mortlake, Anglian and Alpha club.
The Boat Race, is at 5pm on 26th March 2011and runs from Putney to Chiswick Bridge. The course is 4 1/4 miles / 6,779m long and has seen 80 wins for Cambridge, and 75 for Oxford with Cambridge winning last year. Can Oxford pull one back for the dark blues? Join us at Putney Town HQ to find out…
Charge your classes… Attention! Go!
See you at the club.

Andy Holmes MBE
by Ian on Oct.28, 2010, under Other
Putney Town RC is saddened to hear of the death of Andy Holmes MBE. Andy coached the men’s squad at PTRC from 2009-2010 as well as his major role at Furnival Sculling Club. Both clubs undertook a highly enjoyable and successful joint training camp at Banyoles under Andy’s stewardship in 2009. We very much enjoyed Andy’s relaxed style, and he was instrumental in the successes of the club over the past couple of years. Andy had been a regular feature up and down the tideway, more recently as Furnivall Sculling Club’s Director of Rowing. Details of the book of condolence and memorial service are available on the British Rowing website.
Andy will be fondly remembered by all those with whom he shared his passion for rowing.
90’s Theme New Season Kick-Off Party
by Ian on Sep.27, 2010, under Events, News
On Saturday 16th October 2010, PTRC will be hosting a party to celebrate the start of the new rowing season on the tideway.
This is an amalgamation of previous squad and other groups parties into one event, to which the whole PTRC membership, friends and family are invited and encouraged to come along to say goodbye to summer and embrace the chillier days and longer races…
We will also be welcoming the 32 new PTRC members who have just started onto the Men’s and Women’s beginners courses - this will be a great opportunity to introduce them to the social side of the club!
The festivities will begin a few hours after the Pairs Head (11:30am start) at around 16:00pm.
These will consist of ‘Fun Races’ outside the club, followed by drinks in the bar afterwards from 19:00pm, and then there will be music and dancing in the hall until late.
